Chateau du Breuil Pommeau de Normandie 70cl 17%vol

Pommeau is unfermented apple juice blended with young calvados and then aged in oak for at least fourteen months, a Norman farmhouse tradition that only received its own appellation in 1991. Château du Breuil make theirs at a sixteenth century manor near Lisieux. Amber, sweet but not cloying at seventeen percent, with baked apple, caramel, honey, walnut and a warm calvados backbone. The Norman way is chilled as an aperitif, but it is arguably better after dinner with an apple tart or a slice of hard cheese.
