Cloudy Bay Chardonnay Marlborough 2022

Cloudy Bay made their name with Sauvignon Blanc in the 1980s and effectively put Marlborough on the map, but the Chardonnay tends to be the wine their own winemakers are proudest of. Barrel-fermented, partly with wild yeast, with lees work and a portion of malolactic. It sits somewhere between Burgundy and the New World: white peach and citrus, a nutty toasted edge, and Marlborough’s natural acidity holding the whole thing in line.
