Wine Of The Week # 6 // Domaine De Christia Côtes du Rhône

Created by Etienne Grangeon 70 years ago, the property originally comprised 2 hectares of Grenache. It was developed further by the driving force of his son, Alain, who joined the domaine in 1963. Passionate about viticulture, he notably contributed to the expansion of the domaine and planted improved grape varieties such as Syrah and Mourvèdre, elements that helped create the identity of Cristia.

Deep purple in colour, this is a bold Rhone with distinct notes of quartz, lavender, raspberries and a hint of the floral via eucalyptus. A mildy bitter wine, the tannins reduce with breathing, it holds a notable softness and gentleness in its’ texture, rich in sloes, damson and fruit pips. All in all a wonderful bottle from this Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer. 75cl / 13.5 % ABV – £12.21.
