Coonawarra is a narrow strip of terra rossa soil over limestone in South Australia, and it is arguably the country’s finest address for Cabernet Sauvignon. Bowen Estate is one of the district’s established family names, farming there since the early 1970s. A 2001 will be fully mature now: cassis softened into dried blackcurrant and cedar, with the mint and eucalypt note Coonawarra Cabernet so often carries sitting behind it, and tannins entirely resolved.
